I have launched my campaign for United States Senate. Let me tell you why I want to be your Senator. Ronald Reagan often said that government is the problem, not the solution. I agree and I think it is pathetic that our representatives cannot agree on something as simple as a budget. There is a divide in Congress and it is not in our best interest to have that house divided. Measures that Congress can be taking to get America rolling again are being stalled because Congress can’t come to a resolution on anything these days and creditors are leery of extending the US favorable financial ratings because of the uncertainty of where we are headed in the future. This is driving the economy down because the middle class and small businesses, the very heart of this nation, are taking the hit. I know. I am a small business owner in the renewable energy industry. The value of our assets are being reduced, our jobs are being threatened due to unnecessary government regulation and pension reform, and the government wants more from us to clean up their mess.

Here is a quck glance at what you’ll find contained in my blogs. It should clearly demonstrate where I stand on issues. If there is a particular issue that is important to you and you don’t see it listed in the blogs or on my website, contact with your information and let’s talk about it.

Economic Growth

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provided tens of billions of dollars to bolster these efforts. But to realize the clean energy economy’s full potential, federal leaders must do more. The nation needs a comprehensive, economy-wide energy plan, a market-based system that will significantly reduce emissions that cause global warming and derive more of America’s energy supply from clean, renewable sources. Strong federal policies will accelerate the growth of this economic sector by generating jobs and businesses that develop clean energy and increase energy efficiency.

Ethics Reform

Our system of representative government largely depends on the people’s trust in their public servants. Citizens rely on their public servants to preserve their safety, health, and welfare through fair and impartial enforcement of laws, imposition of taxes, and expenditure of public funds. Each citizen has a right to be assured of the fair, impartial, and independent judgment of all public servants. To guard against improper influence or even the appearance of improper influence, and to ensure public trust in the government, we must:

•    set minimum ethical standards of conduct for all officials;
•    require all public officials to disclose their financial interests;
•    require persons engaged in lobbying activities to register and disclose  those activities; and
•    generally protect the public welfare and provide for the national defense.

Organized Labor

We cannot deny that employees have the right to negotiate with their employers for raises and other benefits. What needs to change is the collective bargaining role Unions play in labor relations and the manner in which the employers regard them. Employers need to recognize employee organizations and negotiate with them in “good faith”, PERIOD! Today’s Union has been a product of their our own demise, in that over the years they have fought for the rights of employees through “strikes” and other organized actions, which have been successful in securing right for their members. A large percentage of these labor movements resulted in federal & local laws being adopted to protect workers from being negatively affected due to an employer’s adverse employment actions. Unions should now take a role wherein they can ensure that the rules and policies of the company are followed and provide job protections for their employees, instead of spending their member’s dues on legal fees.

Public Safety

Public safety involves the prevention of and protection from events that could endanger the safety of the general public from significant danger, injury/harm, or damage, such as crimes or disasters (natural or man-made). Our public safety professionals, our firefighters & Paramedics deserve a comprehensive “Bill of Rights.” This is needed because many departments that adopt the NFPA 1582 Physical Standards Guidelines, rarely apply them equally to the members. If you are injured in the Line of Duty, a disability benefit must be deemed to be automatic.

Foreign Affairs

As changes occur in the Middle East and new governments are transitioning into power, some being led by military factions who have anti-American sentiments, the billions in financial aid the United States hands out needs to be re-evaluated. Our commitment to providing humanitarian aid should continue but it should be used for the aid it is supposed to provide and not as a means for opposing nations to develop their weapons systems or used to subsidize foreign industry that disregards the propreitary property rights of US Patent Holders, builds cheap “knock offs” of these products, and exports them here to compete with American business in our own country!

Energy

According to the US Department of Energy, the world consumption of energy in all of its forms (barrels of petroleum, cubic meters of natural gas, watts of hydro power, etc.) is projected to reach 678 quadrillion Btu (or 7.15 exajoules) by 2030 – a 44% increase over 2008 levels (levels for 1980 were 283 quadrillion Btu and we stand at around 500 quadrillion Btu today). We can figure a capacity of .2KW per square acre of land, an efficiency of 20% of the 1000 watts that strikes the surface in each square acre of land.

Renewable energy must be included in our plans for a sustainable future. To rid ourselves of the dependency on foreign oil, we must encourage innovation in the production of alternative fuels.

Immigration

The United States must get tougher in enforcing our current policy and even tougher on illegal Immigration. Maryland cannot become a safe haven state, where illegals can come and obtain government services subsidized by Maryland Tax Payers!
